With competition being at an all-time high in the food supplement business, one way that PlantaCorp distinguishes itself is by being one of the few liposomal supplement manufacturers. Additionally, we produce reliable products that meet the high German quality standards. This is not just a competitive advantage but also supports our mission to bring maximum efficiency food supplements to consumers.
This article talks about why the “Made in Germany” title is important to us and how it drives us towards excellence.
The origins of the “Made in Germany” branding: Quality seal with a history
In 1887, the British government passed a law requiring products manufactured outside England to be labeled with their country of origin. This law was passed in an effort to reduce sales of German and other non-English products to English consumers (1).
However, this plan back-fired because 10 years later, German manufacturing was associated with an attention to detail (2). Since 1896, the “Made in Germany” tag has served as a cue for consumers to make positive inferences about a product and its attributes. This is also known as the “Country-of-origin” effect (COE).
The country-of-origin effect
Also known as the “Made-in” image and the “Nationality bias”, the COE is a psychological effect (1). It describes how consumers’ attitudes, perceptions and purchasing decisions are influenced by a product’s country of origin labeling. Research suggests that this may even affect consumers’ unconscious perceptions.
Attributes associated with the “Made in Germany” tag
Good value system and quality of life
According to the Future Brand country Index 2019 (3), the “Made in Germany” tag ranks 6th globally in terms of value system and quality of life.
PlantaCorp is proud to have its headquarters and manufacturing operations in Germany. The hygiene, sanitation and general manufacturing rules enforced by the German government and the EU commission, ensure that every single step of our operation is held to the highest standards. Our ISO 22000 and GMP certifications re-enforce these quality standards.
Additionally, being subject to the German employment and labour laws, the quality-of-life of every single of our employees is assured.
Environmental friendliness
The environmental friendliness of a brand adds to its value (3).
At PlantaCorp, as outlined in our sustainability article, we value environmental friendliness in everything from our employee participation to our production process. We use green energy manufactured in Germany to power our manufacturing facility. We have also implemented waste-sorting and recycling measures at our production and administration facilities.
Signal for quality
The key associations with the “Made in Germany” tag include a high-quality product, good infrastructure and advanced technology (3). These are principles we stand by on a daily basis.
High-quality products and services
In order to make sure that every single product is of the highest quality, we regularly test our production batches through both internal and external quality control measures. The first step in this process is carried out by our R&D team. The specialists on our team carry out rigorous research into every component of a formulation before it is approved for production.
Post-production, our Quality Management team conducts further in-house analyses to ensure that only those finished products that stand up to every single quality measure reaches our customers. We also collaborate with external laboratories that further confirm the reliability and quality of our products.
Our post-Sales customer service has also been repeatedly appreciated.
PlantaCorp backs this up not only by positive customer feedback but also by certifications such as ISO 22000.
Good infrastructure
At PlantaCorp, we have our own engineering team that comes up with constant improvements to our machinery. We repeatedly invest in improving our infrastructure. This has led to us having had to expand and move our production facilities four times in the last 6 years!
Advanced technology
Advanced technology is our USP. Our product, liposomes, is itself an advanced technology. Attesting to our investment in this, our liposomes production technology is filed-for-patent.
All this has helped strengthen our brand identity.
PlantaCorp’s CEO, Jan Braband’s take on the “Made in Germany” label
We asked our CEO how important quality is to him under the “Made in Germany” label and this was his response
“Very important. We didn’t decide on ‘Made in Germany’ for marketing reasons. Since there are high demands placed on product quality and reliability in Germany, the decision to produce in Germany was implicit for us. That is why we also chose the most complex and costly ISO 22000 certification even though the associated rules and regulations are a special challenge for a young company like ours.”
