What Are Liposomes?
PlantaCorp liposomes are functional lipid bilayer spheres made of high-quality, GMO free sunflower lecithins (containing >97% phospholipids). They are thus biocompatible and biodegradable. The lipid layer of our liposomes can encapsulate hydrophobic (water-repelling) ingredients. The inner aqueous core can encapsulate hydrophilic (water-loving) ingredients. This makes them good ingredient-delivery vehicles. You can read our blog post to learn more about liposomes.
Liposomal Vitamins Offer a High Bioavailability.
The high gastric stability, long retention time and ability to bypass metabolism by the liver, make food supplements encapsulated by liposomes highly bioavailable. Bioavailability refers to the active amount of a nutrient entering the bloodstream as compared to how much was initially consumed. Studies in medicine and nutritional science have already demonstrated an increase in bioavailability using liposomes (1,2).
PlantaCorp’s Liposomes: Highly Bioavailable, Highly Efficient
The formulations that we manufacture have consistently outperformed competitors’ liposomal vitamins and non-liposomal products. Bioavailability studies conducted with PlantaCorp-produced liposomal food supplements, demonstrated up to 46-times more bioavailability than comparable non-liposomal food supplements. Our studies are conducted with vitamins, minerals and plant substances encapsulated in liposomes.

By the end of 2020, the estimation of liposomes for nutraceutical purposes was around 1.7 B€ worldwide.
“Almost a decade ago, the market for food supplements in Germany was extremely fragmented. Interesting new developments were not easily introduced into the market.”, says Jan Braband, CEO, PlantaCorp GmbH. Having stumbled upon liposomal technology as an effective nutrient delivery system, our CEOs further found that the food supplement sector is a good starting point for companies looking to join a market with few entry barriers.
